5/23/2017 0 Comments Attitudinal BeliefsMany scholars returned to Italy from other parts of the world and brought new ideas from abroad. The introduction and exposure of these ideas began the Renaissance in Italy. Moreover, society gained more freedom and independence after the Church had less control on the government, politics, science, and the arts. Wealthy city-states brought commerce and trade. During the cultural rebirth, people expanded their new ideas by introducing Ancient Greek and Ancient Roman ideas. This replaced the christendom atmosphere in Italy with beliefs such as humanism*, individualism*, and secularism*. Society believed that there were other ways of viewing humans and the world. The concepts focused on self-worth rather than faith and spirituality and that everything should not be centered around religion. By example, before the Renaissance pieces of arts were never signed by the artists, yet more and more artists started to take pride in their work and signed their art pieces leaving history with their imprint. Furthermore, when the arts flourished, the newly rich gained status by becoming a patron* of art and learning. They used their wealth to support artist while elevating their own status in society. People of different positions thought that individuals should be educated. People started to learn different languages, mathematics, science, philosophy, and law. This impacted the social and day-to-day life. In addition, vernacular* books were more common during the Renaissance, decreasing literacy among people that were not part of the aristocracy. A few boys were given the chance to attend university. However, girls had to learn common household skills. Women during the Renaissance believed in roles that were set fort society. For instance, women of upper classes were expected to marry or join a convent. At home, a women had to take care of her children, and their education. While nuns learn needlework, reading, and writing. However, most women were confined to their homes or convent. Yet, women in lower classes had more social freedom. However, many had jobs as farmers, prostitute, and servants for upper class citizens or nuns.
